Doris Louise Burton of Kansas City, Missouri, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 9, 1933, to the late Limmie (Alma) Burton. She entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the University Health Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She was a graduate of Howard High School, in Chattanooga, class of 1951. Doris remained active with her class reunion activities. She attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, majoring in a pre-nursing program. After completion, she enrolled in Kansas City, Mo., General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1958. She later enrolled in the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry program for nurse practitioners. Doris completed the program and returned to Kansas City where she was employed for several years at ICC Health Department until retirement. She received top nursing awards for being one of the outstanding nurses in Kansas City. In 2018, her name was published in the International Nurses Association book for worldwide leaders in health care for nurse practitioners.

This group recognizes healthcare providers of excellence. At an early age, she united with Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chattanooga, under the leadership of Reverend JC Clark, and later at  Bethel Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo.. Her brightest moments were helping others.
Doris was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor Young, Dorothy Miller, Rochelle Kidd, Delcie Taylor; brother, Alan Burton; niece and nephew, Pamela Gail and Kenneth( KD) Smith.

Doris leaves to cherish her memories, a loving, devoted sister, Mary Alice Jordan; brother, Arch Burton; nieces, Vanessa (Charles) Drawn, Mobile AL, Birdina Miller, Yuvette Sanders, Keyanna Sanders, and Cheyanne Sell; nephews, Torey (Miranda) Sanders, Adrian (Stephanie) Jackson, Kasey Carter, Kiarin and Ja' Carion (her Noonie) Sanders; cousins, Lillie Swafford, Alice (Dana) Montgomery, Sue Kilgore, La' Tonya Kilgore, Carolyn Jenkins, Sandra Jordan, Willie Newson, Dedra (Charles) Hudson, Vincent, Marshall, and Enoushall Kilgore, Schylar and Dwight McReynolds, Georgia Joyce Chandler, Renea Williamson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, followed immediately by a 1 p.m. funeral service in the chapel of the John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.

Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
