Richard Redden
Richard Earl Redden, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in a local hospital. He was 87.
Richard was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. We are grateful he is now in the presence of the Lord.
Mr. Redden was born in Chattanooga on Oct. 16, 1936, to the late Roland and Ruby Mae Porter Redden. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was appointed a Guardian of the outpost of Democracy because of his exemplary behavior in the encircled City of Berlin and undergoing the hazards of duty behind the Iron Curtain. He was a boilermaker with Combustion Engineering (Alstom) in Chattanooga where he retired in 1999.
He loved to travel with his wife and soulmate. They had many wonderful trips at home and abroad. He also loved to take family trips with his children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Diane Redden; daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Craig Harrison; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Wooden; granddaughters, Lindsay Brooke (Nick) Doerr and Alexis Taylor McCuiston; and great granddaughter, Lydia James Doerr. He is also survived by two brothers, James Ray Redden and Clayton Dean (Anne) Brannon.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
