Jake Warren Howell, 91, of Chattanooga, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after complications from pneumonia after hip surgery.

Jake was born on March 2, 1933 in Gordo, Al., to Milton and Cleva. His father died of rheumatic fever when Jake was only a year old.

After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he moved to Chattanooga in the 1950s and met his wife Bobbie at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, where he became an active, long-time member.

He delivered mail for the U.S. Postal Service for almost 40 years. He loved old movies (especially westerns), cars, World War II airplanes, watching football (especially the Alabama Crimson Tide) and swing dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dennis, Charles, and Billy; and beloved wife, Bobbie Jean Martin Howell.

Survivors include his two loving sons, Philip, and Richard of Chattanooga; one nephew, Chuck of Fresno, Ca.; and two nieces, Susan Brown (Cassie Hall) of Alabaster, Al., and Jennifer King (Max) of Fultondale, Al.

Visitation will be on Jan. 18, from 1-2 p.m. in the narthex of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37402, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jake’s honor can be made to First-Centenary UMC Music Ministry and/or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, 423 877-3524.
