Susan Driscoll King, 54, died on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, in a local hospital in the company of her loving family.

Susan was born in Norman, OK, and grew up in Charlottesville, VA, and Nashville. Susan met the love of her life, Charlie King, at the UT School of Architecture and they later married.

Following architecture school, Susan and Charlie moved to Memphis, where they began their architectural career. In 1982, they returned to Charlie’s hometown of Chattanooga, where they resided on Lookout Mountain and continued their careers in architecture. Susan was a principal in Charles King Architecture, Inc., where she headed the design division of the firm.

She was a member of the Junior League of Chattanooga, a member of the American Institute of Architects and the AIA of Chattanooga, and a community volunteer with various Chattanooga community organizations, including Room at the Inn. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Susan was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Arthur King.

Susan is survived by her beloved family, husband of 27 years, Charles Ordway King; daughters, Mary Elizabeth King and Christine Corey King, of Chattanooga; parents, Mary Nell and Arthur Driscoll, of Nashville; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen Driscoll and Hugh Holloway; niece, Lauren Holloway, all of Dothan, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Jane Ann Driscoll and Robert Amyx; nephew, James Amyx, all of Sugarland, TX; and father-in-law, Joseph Gilbert King, of Signal Mountain.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many health care professionals, including the staff of the H. Clay Evans Johnson Cancer Center of Memorial Hospital and the Chattanooga Heart Institute, for the loving care which was given to Susan during her illness.

Gratitude is expressed to the many friends who have given their love and support to Susan, Charlie, Mary Elizabeth, Christine and all other members of the family.

The family will receive visitors from 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church on McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rankin Wilbourne officiating.

A private burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Hugh Holloway, Robert Amyx, John W. B eard and Roy C. Maddox Jr.
