Bible, Ann Lofty (South Pittsburg)

  • Thursday, January 9, 2020

Ann Lofty Bible, age 81, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, passed away on January 9, 2020 at her home in South Pittsburg.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 pm central time on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, Tennessee and from 1:00 to 2:30 pm central Sunday January 12, 2020 at Kimball Church of Christ in Kimball, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Kimball Church of Christ with Billy Watkins of Kimball Church of Christ officiating and John Lofty leading congregational singing. Private burial will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, Tennessee. Arrangements are by Rogers Funeral Home.

Ann was born in South Pittsburg to Wes Lofty and Odell Garland Lofty on June 8, 1938. She married John Brice Bible on December 13, 1958. She was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb College and later a master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Ann worked as a sixth grade teacher and as the librarian at South Pittsburg Elementary for many years. She retired in 2005 to take care of her husband John. She was very active in her church, Kimball Church of Christ. She also cherished her retired teacher group, self-proclaimed as “The Goddesses,” where Ann was known as the Queen.

Ann leaves behind a large void in the hearts of her family and friends. Her love of life, her love of books, and her love of laughter will never be forgotten. Ann was always good for a sarcastic comment and was known for her sharp wit. Anyone who knew her has an “Ann” story to tell, always told with a laugh and a smile.

Ann is preceded in death by her husband John Brice Bible, Sr., her mother and father, Wes and Odell Lofty, her brothers and sister, Bob Lofty, Richard Lofty, Don Lofty, and Mary Lofty Sells.

Ann is survived by her children, Brice Bible, David Bible, Tim Bible and Rose Mary Bible Muirhead, and by her 9 beloved grandchildren, and her beloved sister and best friend of 80 years Rose Lofty Payne.

Ann and her sister Rose were inseparable since Rose (the younger of the two) was born. They decided early on that banding together would get them much farther than fighting with each other; a pact that would serve them well the rest of their lives. Anyone who knew them knew that they were a formidable pair. Anyone lucky enough to be loved by them were the most fortunate people on earth.

Pallbearers will be Steve Lofty, Josh Bible, Matthew Bible, Sam Bible, Luke Bible and Ben Bible.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or a donation to the South Pittsburg Elementary School Library.

The family of Ann Bible wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Avalon Hospice and her wonderful caregivers Robin Strahan and Shelia Watts.
